39 psychology students from Valle del Cauca, start professional practice

Students may be able to execute their proposals with the community in organizations such as the Military Forces and the Institute of Family Welfare.

In the auditorium of the Center for Open and Distance Education CEAD-Palmira, 39 students from the psychology program gathered with Dr. Claudia Matilde Adarve, who is in charge of providing information about the course of professional practice in psychosocial intervention projects.

In order for students to begin practices they must fulfill the university requirements which are: the student must have passed 138 credits, including all intervention courses and fulfill a total of 194 hours of practice in the places where the University has signed agreements and that are close to their place of residence:

These places are:

Nationally: Colombian Family Welfare Institute ICBF (as written in Spanish) and The Military Forces.

In the area: Educational Institution Rodrigo Lloreda Caicedo, Liceo Mixto Emperador and Fundenit from the city of Santiago de Cali.

Locally: Hogar Santa Cecilia, Casa del Menor Nuestra Señora del Palmar in the town of Palmira.

Before starting with the practices, students should visit the institution where they plan to complete them, do a needs assessment, propose a psychosocial intervention project, run it and at the end evaluate if the proposal had any impact on the community.

This process of Professional practices has students from the municipalities of Tulua, Sevilla, Buga, Cali, Palmira and Pradera.

Professional practice intent to:

  • Help students strengthen their skills as future psychologists.
  • Help the community to improve their quality of life.
  • Work on the of social projection area.

The Professional practice is a requirement to comply with the policies of the University to obtain the title of psychologist.
